Golf got interesting
again. We're just
keeping the receipts.
In The Hazard is an independent discovery site for the Shopify side of golf — DTC clubs, apparel, headcovers and accessories from brands that don't live in a pro shop or on Golf Galaxy. It exists because the indie golf world has quietly become one of the more interesting corners of both sports commerce and consumer culture, and nobody was keeping a proper index of it.
This is a personal project. No brand affiliation. No commercial relationship with anything listed here — at least not yet. If and when affiliate or commission arrangements go live, they will be disclosed here and on the relevant pages. The editorial is independent regardless.
The site divides what it covers into two tiers: brands we've editorially vetted and chosen to put our name behind, and a wider discovery layer that passes quality and legitimacy filters without necessarily having our editorial stamp. The distinction matters.
How the two tiers work
Editorially selected
Brands we've researched, assessed and made a deliberate choice to feature. Each has a brand hub page, editorial copy and a considered placement decision behind it. These are the brands we're prepared to put our name on.
- —Cream / white card background
- —Green Curated marker
- —Full brand hub page
- —Editorial feature copy
Quality-filtered
The wider Shopify golf world, run through a set of quality filters. Real brands, real products, legitimate operations — but without the editorial vetting that the curated tier involves. Think of it as the wider field rather than the shortlist.
- —Sage / green-tinted card background
- —Lighter Discovery marker
- —Passes category & price filters
- —No editorial assessment
What we believe
Curation beats catalog
There is no shortage of golf products. There is a shortage of trustworthy editorial voices prepared to say this one is worth your time and this one isn't. A smaller list of considered picks is more useful than an exhaustive index.
Editorial beats advertising
The site exists to surface things worth buying, not to move inventory for the highest bidder. The moment editorial becomes advertising is the moment it stops being useful. We're not there and don't intend to be.
The independent brands are more interesting anyway
Callaway and TaylorMade make fine clubs. They're not what this is about. Neither are the indie brands charging premium prices for the privilege of being indie — this is a site for golfers building their game, not their portfolio. The DTC founders, the single-product makers, the Shark Tank alumni, the Portland headcover workshops making genuinely affordable gear — that's the story worth covering.
